Oldest member of sesquicentennial pioneer train dies

J. Weldon Beck, the oldest member of the sesquicentennial wagon train in 1997, passed away Thursday, September 24, in Burley, Idaho. He was 99.

Beck, who was 86 when he embarked on the entire 101-day trip from Winter Quarters, Neb., to Salt Lake City in 1997, went on the trek because friends and family were going and helped finance the trip.
