SYRACUSE — A 17-year-old girl was seriously injured Thursday night when she was run over during Syracuse High School's homecoming parade.

The girl had jumped into the open back hatch of an SUV that was towing a 16-foot trailer with six to eight Syracuse High students on it, said Davis County Sheriff's Sgt. Scott Harper.

Harper said the girl attempted to move from the SUV to join her friends on the trailer as the homecoming procession made its way past 2300 W. 700 South.

"She tripped and fell and was run over by the wheels," Harper said, noting that the SUV was moving very slowly when the accident occurred.

The girl suffered injuries to her torso, arms and legs. She was flown to Ogden Regional Medical Center in serious but stable condition.
