Female passenger dies after remote, late-night car crash
SANPETE COUNTY — A few days after three cars crashed on a remote section of state Route 132, one of the accident's seven victims has died from her injuries.
Patricia Lynn "Tricia" "Patty" Rogers, 20, was traveling as passenger in a Chevy Cavalier on the undivided highway late last Thursday night when things went terribly wrong.
The roads were wet from rain in the area when the accident occurred at 10 p.m., according to Utah Highway Patrol spokesman Cameron Roden. "And the accident occurred on a downward slope on a turn."
UHP investigators said in a report that the Cavalier crossed the center line and hit an oncoming SUV head-on, sending both vehicles into a counterclockwise spin.
The Cavalier flipped in the air and landed upside-down on its roof, Roden said.
A Volkswagen Jetta, which was traveling west behind the Cavalier, then smashed into the side of the wrecked Cavalier.
Rodgers, a Manti resident, graduated from Manti High School in 2007 and was currently attending Snow College. Her obituary is in Thursday's Deseret News; her funeral is scheduled for Friday at the Manti LDS Stake Center, 295 S. Main.
