PROVO — An infant suffered life-threatening injuries in an auto accident in Provo Monday at University Parkway and Freedom Boulevard.
The 11-month-old girl, who police say was restrained in a car seat, sustained head injuries when a Volkswagen hit the left-turning Honda in which the child was riding.
Emergency personnel transported the child to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center. From there, a LifeFlight crew flew the little girl to Primary Children's Medical Center.
Sara Potter, 23, was driving the infant in her Honda when the accident occurred. After Potter waited to turn left off of University Parkway onto Freedom Boulevard, she initiated the turn when the light turned yellow, Provo police said.
"The black Volkswagen was southbound on University Parkway and entered the intersection lawfully," officials said in a press statement.
The 18-year-old Volkswagen driver suffered only minor injuries from her airbag deployment and her two passengers were unharmed, officials said.
Provo officers said the baby was flown to Primary Children's for specific treatment after a CT scan at UVRMC showed possible internal bleeding around the infant's brain. Police, however, would not release the infant's current condition as of late Monday evening, nor would they release the child's name.
