Police from several jurisdictions were investigating incidents of car vandalism over the weekend.

In Salt Lake City, 28 vehicles at the Ken Garff auto dealership, 198 E. 500 South, had front left tires slashed. The vandalism was discovered just after 4 a.m. Monday. Some of the vehicles damaged were brand new Saabs and Land Rovers, said Salt Lake police detective Dennis McGowan.

"I don't know for sure, but this doesn't appear to be random," he said. "Somehow it's related to the business."

Damage was estimated at between $10,000 and $12,000. Anyone with information may call police at 801-799-7000.

In northern Davis County, vandalism left cars in four cities with windows shot out. Late Saturday and early Sunday, Layton police were informed of 16 vehicles parked on streets and driveways that had been hit, said Layton Police Lt. Quinn Moyes.

Moyes said it appears all of the cars were shot with a BB gun or some type of pellet gun, but that is the only real connection between the targeted vehicles. The cars ranged from "very expensive to older models, from minivans to pickup trucks," he said.

Clearfield police reported 20 to 25 shattered windows, and there were similar incidents in Syracuse and West Point, Moyes said. The damage estimate in Layton is about $6,000. He said the shooter left many valuable items in the vehicles.

"The interesting thing is that the vehicles were locked, and there were valuables in them, but nothing was taken," Moyes said. "They shot the window and the window shattered, but then they left."
