Judge Memorial and Riverton became the latest girls soccer teams to experience how it feels to play the game inside a pro soccer stadium.

Both teams took a breather from their respective region races to meet in a late season non-region game at Rio Tinto Stadium over the weekend. The game itself turned out to be a classic — with the Silverwolves taking down the previously unbeaten Bulldogs 2-1 on a goal from Darien Jenkins in the 77th minute.

The turnaround for the game was quick for both teams. Judge had played at Juan Diego on Thursday night and Riverton faced Taylorsville on Friday afternoon before both teams met up at Rio Tinto Stadium at noon on Saturday. But that was a small price to pay for an experience that both teams had looked forward to for the past several weeks.

"It feels awesome," Bulldogs forward Danielle Gaztambide said. "It's a real privilege. I think any player that plays soccer would love to play on a field like that."

Originally the game was scheduled to take place Sept. 12, but both teams agreed to move it back a week to accommodate seniors that were taking ACT and SAT tests that weekend.

A delay only turned up the heat of anticipation that had been simmering in both locker rooms since plans to meet up on Real Salt Lake's home field were first announced at the beginning of the season.

"That's the nicest field in the country," Voorhes said. "If you can't get excited about something like that, you're not going to be excited playing anywhere."

LEADING THE PACK: At the halfway point of the prep football season, few teams have taken the state by storm as dramatically as Brighton and Ogden.

The Tigers are one of just a handful of undefeated teams left statewide. In five weeks, Ogden (5-0) has already matched its win total from a season ago. For Brighton, the 2009 season has played out in equally impressive fashion so far. At 4-1, the Bengals have already doubled last year's total and pulled off a massive upset with a 21-10 victory over two-time defending 5A champion Alta last Friday.

One reason both schools are experiencing so much success might be that each one ranks first in some important statistical categories.

Ogden's spread offense has produced yardage and points in amounts that surpass every other school. They lead the state 46.6 points per game — highlighted by a 63-42 shootout victory over Logan — and have not been held under 30 points in any game up to this point.
