MURRAY — A roof under construction fell on a family eating lunch Saturday afternoon, injuring an adult and child, firefighters said.
A homeowner was building an addition to his house at 4752 S. Rainbow Drive (225 East) and had set the trusses up without bracing them properly, Murray Fire Battalion Chief Kevin Potter said.
Twenty-five to 30 sheets of plywood were stacked on the roof, Potter said. When the weight shifted, it started a domino effect that crashed the roof onto a family of about six people eating lunch underneath.
A middle-aged adult and a young boy were sent to Intermountain Medical Center. The man suffered smashed toes, and the boy sustained an ankle injury, Potter said.
"They're lucky they didn't get hurt worse," he said.
