West Valley City — The Hunter Wolverines (2-3) beat the Cyprus Pirates (2-3) 38-0 in a game dominated from start to finish by Hunter's running game.

Running backs La'au Tanuvasa and Tevita Bloomfield could not be stopped. Tanuvasa ran for three scores and Bloomfield for two more. Tanuvasa had 27 carries for 163 yards to go with his three touchdowns to lead the team.

After the game Hunter Coach Dustin Pearce said the difference in this game was, "Our O-line. We got first-downs and we moved the ball."

The Wolverines had a game plan to "Establish the run game first and foremost," said Pearce. A plan that worked perfectly and showed no weaknesses all night long.

After a scoreless first quarter Hunter went on a tirade scoring three touchdowns in the second. With less than a minute left in the half the Wolverines completed an onside kick grabbed by Sawer Hutto that led to a 43-yard field goal made by Jake Jex to make it 24-0 to end the half.

Cyprus' offense struggled against the defense of the Wolverines in the first half as well as the second half.

Tanuvasa was unstoppable behind the powerful offensive line of the Wolverines. He scored all three of Hunter's touchdowns in the first half. The first from five yards, the second from 20 and the last from four.

The second half was Bloomfield's turn to score some points. He scored once in the third quarter from 19 yards out, and again in the fourth from the 10 pulling a few Cyprus Pirates along on his way to the end zone.

Hunter's defense was also very strong in this outing, shutting out the Pirates and keeping them out of the red zone almost all night. They caused one fumble in the second quarter that gave the Wolverines a start on the Cyprus 20-yard-line. In the fourth quarter Royal Tabile intercepted a pass by Cyprus' Jazz White just when the Pirates were looking good moving the ball down field.

Pearce told his team: "This is a start of a new season. It's important to get better every week."

They hope to go into Granger next week with the same dominance with their running game.
