THE STAKES

For FLORIDA ST. ... The Seminoles can salvage their season with a victory today and jump back into the national spotlight.

For BYU ... This is the Cougars' last chance to make a statement against a BCS opponent during the regular season. A loss would knock BYU out of the top 10 and ruin any hopes for a dream season.

THE TRENDS

For FLORIDA ST. ... The 'Noles haven't had a 10-win season since 2003 and they haven't won an ACC championship since 2005.

For BYU ... The Cougars are 7-1 in home-openers since 2001 but they have just a 4-8 record all-time against teams from the Atlantic Coast Conference.

THE EDGE

FLORIDA ST. will win if ... it can force turnovers, get pressure on Max Hall and establish a running game.

BYU will win if ... it can get an early lead on the Seminoles and take advantage of a defensive secondary that has given up a lot of big plays.

PLAYER TO WATCH

Max Hall, BYU: Another good outing today by the Cougar quarterback, against an ACC foe, and he could solidify himself as a Heisman Trophy candidate. Hall is putting up impressive numbers but says he only cares about victories.

KEY MATCHUP

FSU's defensive line vs. BYU's offensive line: For the Seminoles, putting pressure on Hall is crucial. If they can disrupt the Cougars' passing game, it would help a struggling defensive secondary. BYU is thin, depth-wise, on the offensive line and needs to stay healthy.

INJURY REPORT

Florida St.: Defensive end Justin Mincey (knee), who missed the first two games, will be sidelined.

BYU: Safety Scott Johnson (concussion) is possible. Running back Harvey Unga (hamstring) will play. Left guard Braden Hansen (knee) is out 1-3 weeks
