These four foreign-language films are new to DVD this week, led by a reissue of a terrific martial-arts epic.

"Hero: Special Edition" (Miramax, 2002, PG-13, $19.99). This knockout martial-arts period piece from director Zhang Yimou features Jet Li as a warrior who relates to a king the battles he has fought battles on his behalf. Martial-arts stars Maggie Cheung, Zhang Ziyi, Tony Leung and Donny Yen are also on hand, and the direction is stylish, utilizing a wide palette of color.

Extras: widescreen, in Cantonese with English subtitles, featurettes (including Quentin Tarantino interviewing Jet Li), storyboards, trailers

"Rumba" (Koch Lorber, 2008, $26.98). Cheery, lighthearted, colorful farce about a married pair of schoolteachers who live for Latin dance, until an auto accident leaves her with only one leg and him without any memory. This zany Belgian comedy has been compared to Jacques Tati because it relies heavily on sight gags and has very little dialogue. Sometimes it's just too silly, but there are many clever sequences and quite a few big laughs.

Extras: widescreen, in French with English subtitles, deleted scenes, bloopers, trailers

"White Night Wedding" (IFC, 2008, $24.98). This Icelandic comedy-drama is about a widowed professor who teaches a course on Anton Chekhov (this story is based on Chekhov's "Ivanov"). The professor's wife committed suicide a year earlier, and now he's about to reluctantly marry a former student half his age, but various semi-comic obstacles stand in his way. Loopy and only fitfully amusing.

Extras: widescreen, in Icelandic with English subtitles, trailers

"Triangle" (Magnolia, 2007; R for violence; $26.98). Hong Kong action directors Tsui Hark, Ringo Lam and Johnnie To each took a third of this movie, passing the baton, if you will, to the next in a story of three friends who get involved in the theft of an ancient treasure. Some good action scenes, and the shifts in style and tone are an interesting experiment, but as a cohesive film, it doesn't really work.
