Taiwanese Art and Film Festival Friday

A daylong festival featuring films from Taiwan kicks-off at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Utah Cultural Celebration Center.

Salt Lake's Taiwanese Art and Film Festival will feature screenings of three documentaries and two feature films along with performances by the Utah Chinese Folk Orchestra, the Sil Lum Kung Fu Kwoon Performing Arts Group and the Salt Lake Chinese Choir.

Salt Lake County Mayor Peter Corroon, West Valley Mayor pro-tem Russ Brooks, Salt Lake City Councilman Carlton Christensen and Thomas Chen, director-general of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office will host a festival reception at 6 p.m.

All festival events are free and open to the public.

10:30 a.m.-noon: "Grandma's Hairpin" (documentary)

12:20 p.m.-1:10 p.m: "Elephant Boy and Robogirl" (documentary)

1:30 p.m.-3:10 p.m.: "Summer's Tail" (feature)

3:30 p.m.-5:35 p.m.: "For More Sun" (documentary)

7:45 p.m.-9:20 p.m.: "The Shoe Fairy" (feature)

6:00 p.m.: Reception with musical accompaniment by the Utah Chinese Orchestra

7:00 p.m.: Performances by the Sil Lum Kung Fu Group and Salt Lake Chinese Choir
