A bicyclist was taken to the hospital in serious condition after being hit by a car Thursday evening.
A 29-year-old female was driving her car south on West Temple about 8:20 p.m. and crossing 800 South with a green light when the male bicyclist rode in front of her. The 26-year-old man was riding west on 800 South in the crosswalk when the car struck him, Salt Lake Police Lt. James Tracy said.
The man hit the windshield of the woman's car before landing on the ground. He was transported to University Hospital in serious condition with a possible broken leg and broken ribs.
Tracy said nobody was cited or arrested. Tracy said bicyclists using crosswalks should walk their bikes across, not ride.
"We always tell people on bikes they need to follow traffic rules," Tracy said.
