OREM — An American Fork man led the Utah Highway Patrol on a 30-minute chase Thursday before officers spiked his vehicle, officials said.
The chase began on southbound I-15 around 1:20 a.m., when UHP troopers attempted to pull over Bradlee Kalkbrenner, 24, for improper lane travel, said UHP trooper Cameron Roden. Kalkbrenner refused to pull over and increased his speed to 80 mph before exiting at a Provo exit, said Roden.
Kalkbrenner then worked his way north to Orem, where Orem police and the Utah County Sheriff's Office assisted in the pursuit. Around 1:50 a.m., Orem officers were able to spike the vehicle, forcing Kalkbrenner to pull over, and police said he was arrested without further incident.
Roden said officers discovered the plates on Kalkbrenner's vehicle had been stolen, but they have yet to determine whether the vehicle itself was stolen. At the time, Roden said, officers suspected that Kalkbrenner, who was wanted on felony warrants out of Provo, was driving under the influence, and they were later able to determine there were drugs in his system. Officials also reported that they found burglary tools in the vehicle.
Kalkbrenner was booked into the Utah County Jail for investigation of a number of crimes, including DUI, failure to operate in one lane and possession of burglary tools.
