PARK CITY — Park City Mayor Dana Williams will take on former three-term Mayor Brad Olch in the general mayoral election this fall.
A total 16.1 percent of eligible voters turned out to vote in Tuesday's primary, according to Park City Recorder Cindy LaPicollo.
"Eight years ago, I promised that I would never forget that it is the citizens who put you here and that's who you're responsible to," said Williams, who is seeking his third term in office. "I think, basically, that we're still just getting ramped up, and so I have a lot of living-room meetings and some events coming up over the next couple of months."
Williams received 589 votes Tuesday. He hopes to build on his record and see his new sustainability department get its feet, he said during the primary season. Olch, who received 227 votes, was also excited by Tuesday's results.
"I'm pleased and want to thank my supporters," he said. "Now we can move on and hopefully talk about the issues."
Olch said he hopes to focus on long-range planning and the city's economic situation.
The mayors beat out Diania Turner and Don Portwood, who together received fewer than 40 votes.
In Tooele, incumbents ruled. Tooele Mayor Patrick Dunlavy took 53 percent of the vote. He will run against Dan Egelund in the general elections, a former House of Representatives candidate who won 21 percent of the vote.
Elsewhere in Tooele County, incumbents didn't fare so well. Grantsville Mayor Byron Anderson lost to Brant Marshall and Jill Thomas, with Anderson only garnering 14 percent of the vote.
Ogden's City Council race saw incumbents move forward. Municipal Ward 1 incumbent Jesse Garcia will challenge Neil Garner; Municipal Ward 3 incumbent Doug Stephens will run against Patrick Dean; and two council green thumbs, David Phipps and Bart E. Blair, will compete for at-large seat B.
