The Deseret News dominated this year's UNPA Utah Photojournalism competition, walking away with 18 of the total 30 awards given — more than any other newspaper.
The Deseret News was led by Mike Terry and Jeffrey D. Allred, who tallied four awards each.
Terry placed third in the photographer of the year category; second in the humor division; third in photo essay and grabbed honorable mention in sports action.
Allred finished first in the general news category; second in video; third in sports action and took an honorable mention in sports feature.
Tom Smart captured the Deseret News' other first place, this one in the spot news division. Smart also finished second in the general news category.
Scott G. Winterton, Laura Seitz and Kristin Murphy each had two awards for the Deseret News.
Former photo intern Tim Hussin and photographer Jason Olson each earned one award.
