Polls for municipal elections open this morning along the Wasatch Front.

West Valley City, Murray, South Jordan, Park City and Provo will feature some of the state's major mayoral races. Meanwhile, today's election will help thin a crowd of six candidates fighting to represent Salt Lake City's Avenues and Capitol Hill neighborhoods.

Most polling locations will open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m.

For information about when and where to vote, contact your city or county recorder.

A new statute, passed during the 2009 legislative session, requires all voters to show identification. Acceptable identification includes a Utah driver's license, Utah identification card, Utah concealed weapons permit, a current U.S. passport or federally issued identification card or a current tribal identification card.

A complete list of acceptable documents and forms of identification is available at www.clerk.slco.org.
