OREM — An Orem man was arrested Sunday after police say he raped his 12-year-old stepdaughter.
Over the summer the girl traveled to California with her mother, stepfather, step uncle and two siblings to visit her mother's family, but when it was time to leave, the girl refused, stating that both her stepfather and step uncle had sexually abused her, according to a police affidavit filed in 4th District Court.
After an argument, the family returned home to Orem without her, and the Tulane County sheriff in California interviewed the girl, the affidavit stated.
Police said the victim told them her stepfather and step uncle had independently been raping her in her home in Orem for the previous three years.
When the mother and stepfather were confronted by Orem police, the mother told police that her daughter had complained about her step uncle sexually abusing her three years prior, stated the affidavit. The uncle had been kicked out of the house at the time but moved back in over a year ago, according to the affidavit.
The mother told police her daughter had also complained about her stepfather sexually abusing her earlier this year, but the mother had not believed her.
Police said the 28-year-old stepfather admitted to sexually abusing his stepdaughter when she was 10 years old.
He was booked into jail for investigation of rape of a child.
The step uncle had not been located as of Monday afternoon.
