High school football: Boelter leads Jaguars in rout of Grizzlies
West Jordan (4-0) defeated Copper Hills (0-4) 55-6 Friday in a game that was taken over by Jaguar quarterback Adam Boelter. Boelter was part of all eight touchdowns for West Jordan. He threw for six touchdowns, a total of 258 yards passing, completing 24 of 33 pass attempts. He also added two rushing touchdowns with six carries for a total of 99 yards. All of this before sitting the last nine minutes of the game. He has made a strong case for High School Player of the Week.
"It was our first region game so it was important to play to our full potential," Jaguars coach Mike Morgan said. This was the first game they played all phases of the game well … for all four quarters. We played the way we should and finished the way we should."
West Jordan started out red hot, scoring three times in the first quarter while keeping Copper Hills scoreless. Quarterback Adam Boelter connected with receiver C.J. O'Neal for the first two before finishing with another touchdown pass to Deshawn Perkins to make it 22-0 because of a completed two-point conversion caught by Martavius Redmond after West Jordan's first touchdown.
The Jaguars kept their foot on the gas into the second quarter, scoring three more times but missing two extra-point attempts to make it 41-0 at the half.
Adam Boelter ended the half with six touchdowns, 236 yards passing, and 89 yards rushing for a total of 325 total yards in the half. C.J. O'Neal added 142 yards receiving of his own for two touchdowns in the first half.
Boelter ran it in from 16 yards out for the first score of the second quarter, then connected with Deshawn Perkins for short passes on the final two scores of the quarter.
Copper Hills pushed the ball up to the Jaguar six-yard-line with a few minutes left in the half but was stopped on a 4th and 15 play by West Jordan's defense. The Jaguars went the length of the field in less than two minutes to score on the last play of the quarter from Boelter to Perkins.
The third quarter was no nicer to the Grizzlies. West Jordan pushed them back to the three-yard-line, forcing them to punt. Boelter spun it in on the right side from 10 yards out to make it 48-0 after the extra point by Alex Giordani. At the end of the third Copper Hills' punt snap sailed over the kicker's head, which left the Jaguars in the red zone to start the fourth quarter. Boelter added his eighth and final touchdown of the evening with a seven-yard connection to Cameron Peacock.
With second-string players in to finish the game the Grizzlies pushed the ball down to the one-yard-line with a pass from Casey Spell to Matt Demass down the sideline. That play set up the final play of the game, a one-yard run from Jeff Peterson to avoid the shutout by the Jaguars.
