Alicia Merrill had never heard of geocaching before meeting her husband, but the sport quickly became part of their relationship.

Brant Merrill introduced Alicia to geocaching on their first date. Later, he hung her engagement ring from a tree net to the first cache they found together. They also hunted for caches in Cancun on their honeymoon.

"It's addictive. It's fun," Brant said. "The day before I got married, I was out geocaching."

Many Mormons are getting caught up in the newest kind of technological treasure hunt, finding that it's not only fun but also a great way to spend time with family and explore the earth. The Merrills are among the masses who have discovered geocaching, which basically involves hunting for treasure with a Global Positioning System device.

Explorers log onto geocaching.com and pick one of the 870,000 currently active sites they want to investigate. They load them onto their GPS unit, along with hints and information supplied by whoever has hidden something.
