AMERICAN FORK — An American Fork man was arrested Thursday after police say he hit two strangers with a baseball bat and stole one man's wallet.
Police say Dustin Hutchinson, 25, was sitting outside his house when two men passed by on their way to a Walmart. Hutchinson followed them, asked them what they were doing and then struck one man in the abdomen with a metal baseball bat, according to a police affidavit filed in 4th District Court. Hutchinson asked the man what he had and took the victim's wallet and a bag of coins, the affidavit states. The other victim called 911 after Hutchinson allegedly hit him on the arm with the bat and left.
When police contacted Hutchinson at his home, Hutchinson told police he was worried the victims were going to break into his house and thought they had stolen the wallet and coins, the affidavit states. Police say he had hidden the coins and attempted to burn the wallet.
Hutchinson was booked into jail for investigation of aggravated robbery.
