PULLMAN, Wash. — Despite 12 shots on goal, the No. 18-ranked BYU women's soccer team fell 2-1 to Washington State on Thursday.
A quick goal in the ninth minute of the game from freshman Carlee Payne put BYU on the scoreboard early. BYU took eight shots in the first half, with senior Alyssa Vander Veur taking four of them. Just two minutes before the half, WSU's Kiersten Dallstream took the ball down and found the back of the net to tie up the score 1-1 going into halftime. A goal by Carly Dobratz with 23 minutes to play put Washington State on top 2-1.
BYU, now 3-2-1, plays next in Montana at noon Saturday.
