MOAB — A California couple had to be rescued Tuesday after they got lost while mountain biking near Moab and became dehydrated.
Grand County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Curt Brewer said Terry Daniels, 39, and Katie Daniels, 37, used a cell phone to alert authorities to their situation. The Santa Rosa, Calif., couple was riding the Porcupine Rim Trail east of Moab when they went off trail and ended up near Matt Martin Point, Brewer said.
Efforts were made over the phone to get the Daniels back on the Porcupine Rim Trail, but Brewer said the bikers were too dehydrated.
The sheriff's search and rescue team was called out and located the bikers just north of Coffee Pot Rock. The Daniels were rehydrated, Brewer said, and transported off the trail by search and rescue team members.
