ROOSEVELT — A Roosevelt man has been charged with aggravated arson after investigators say he torched the camp trailer where his ex-girlfriend was living.

Dug Francis Nagel is accused of using an unidentified accelerant to set fire to the woman's camp trailer on Aug. 28.

Nagel, 38, was stopped in a vehicle spotted by witnesses leaving the scene of the fire, according to court records. The officer who stopped Nagel suspected he was driving drunk, the charges state, and asked him to perform field sobriety tests.

Nagel allegedly failed the tests and was booked into the Uintah County Jail for investigation of DUI. His vehicle was also impounded and inventoried.

Uintah County sheriff's detective Stephanie Cox said a police dog trained to detect accelerants was employed during a subsequent search of Nagel's clothing and vehicle. Cox said the dog showed a "positive alert" for the presence of an accelerant on the burned-out trailer, on Nagel's clothes, on a glove in his vehicle and on the vehicle itself.

Nagel is slated to make his initial court appearance on Sept. 21.
