Dixie State College has been chosen to host the 2010 Utah Academy of Science, Arts and Lectures spring conference.
The conference, which will feature a series of addresses and plenary lectures, will be held on Friday, April 9, on the Dixie campus in St. George.
The opportunity, said Erin O'Brien, an assistant professor of biology at Dixie State and the academy's biology chairwoman, "is a big deal and a fantastic one for the college, its students and the community at large."
Attendees come from all over Utah to hear presenters from foreign nations and other states, O'Brien said.
"The wonderful thing about this conference is that it's very collegial and provides a friendly atmosphere for students to make their first professional presentation and to receive statewide attention for their work," O'Brien said. "Students interested in graduate school or professional school often make important contacts at the conference if they are interested in continuing their schooling in Utah."
