DENVER — Chris Young hit three home runs for Arizona, but Seth Smith connected twice and drove in a career-high five runs as the Colorado Rockies completed a three-game sweep with a 13-5 romp Sunday.
Ian Stewart and Carlos Gonzalez homered and Yorvit Torrealba doubled twice, helping Colorado extend its NL wild-card lead to two games over San Francisco.
Smith tore up Arizona pitching over the weekend. He went 9 for 13 with three homers and nine RBIs in the series.
Young, who entered with only seven homers this season, connected for a career-high three shots. He came up in the ninth with a chance to tie the major league record for homers in a game, and walked with two outs.
Mark Reynolds hit his 41st homer in the ninth for the Diamondbacks.
Jorge De La Rosa (14-9) won for the 12th time in his last 14 decisions and tied Jason Marquis for the team lead in victories.
Arizona's Yusmeiro Petit (3-9) gave up six runs and four hits in three innings.
NATIONALS 5, MARLINS 4: At Washington, Ryan Zimmerman hit a two-run homer in the ninth inning to end Washington's eight-game losing streak. Zimmerman's drive into the red seats in left-center field capped Washington's three-run ninth. Willie Harris started the rally with a leadoff homer against Leo Nunez (4-5) and Cristian Guzman followed with an infield hit to set up Zimmerman's fifth career game-ending homer. Florida fell five games back of NL wild card-leading Colorado. The Marlins led 2-0 before Mike Morse hit a tying two-run single in the bottom of the eighth. Nick Johnson responded with a two-out, two-run single off Mike MacDougal (1-0) in the top of the ninth. Hanley Ramirez hit his 100th homer for the Marlins, who wasted a solid start by Anibal Sanchez. The right-hander allowed four hits in six sharp innings.
PADRES 4, DODGERS 3: At Los Angeles, Kevin Kouzmanoff drove in three runs and Adrian Gonzalez homered, leading the Padres over the Dodgers. Tim Stauffer (4-6) won his third straight start, allowing three runs and seven hits in 6 2-3 innings. Luke Gregerson struck out the side in the eighth after retiring pinch-hitter Matt Kemp on a flyball for the final out in the seventh, and Heath Bell worked a hitless ninth for his 35th save in 38 attempts. The loss spoiled the return of Dodgers starter Hiroki Kuroda from the disabled list in his first outing since getting hit in the head with a line drive on Aug. 15 at Phoenix. Kuroda (5-6) gave up four runs — three earned — and four hits over five innings.
