PROVO — In an early season match-up between two undefeated teams it was West Jordan who prevailed over Provo after trailing 19-28 at halftime.
West Jordan's Adam Boelter ran for two touchdowns and passed for four more as he willed the Jaguars to a 46-28 win over the Bulldogs Friday night. Boelter threw for 309 yards and ran for 127 more for 436 yards of total offense in the game.
Down nine at the half, it took the Jaguars two possessions to get on the board in the third period. Taking over from the Bulldogs at the 50-yardline, Boelter orchestrated a drive that included two passes for 25 yards and 25 Boelter rushing yards. After his 2-yard touchdown run the Jaguars still trailed 26-28.
After holding the Bulldogs to a three-and-out, Boelter connected with Deshawn Perkins on a 45-yard touchdown pass on third and long to finally give the Jaguars the lead. Boelter connected with Cammron Peacock on the 2-point conversion to put West Jordan up 34-28.
Boelter effectively put the game away when he connected with Devon Paraso on a 12-yard touchdown pass with 5:56 remaining to push the lead to 40-28. Two plays later Junior Lapale intercepted a Matt Griner pass and scampered 25 yards for the game's final score.
The Bulldogs looked like trouble for the Jaguars in the first half. On Provo's second play of the game, Griner handed off to Keoki Unufe who blew through a huge hole in the line and ran 86 yards for the game's first touchdown.
Early in the second quarter the Bulldogs recovered a Jaguar fumble on the West Jordan 25-yardline which resulted in a 20-yard touchdown pass from Griner to Keoki's brother Maka Unufe. The score put the Bulldogs ahead 14-0.
Boelter responded with a 1-yard touchdown run and a 9-yard touchdown pass to Martavius Redmond to pull the Jaguars back to 12-14.
Maka and Keoki Unufe each scored again before the half. Maka's touchdown coming on a 70-yard kickoff return and Keoki's a 10-yard pass from Griner. Maka also had a kick return for a touchdown called back for holding in the second half. His leg cramped up on the run and he played only a few downs the remainder of the game.
West Jordan moves to 3-0 on the season while the Bulldogs fall to 2-1. The Jaguars begin Region 3 play next week when they travel to play at winless Copper Hills. Provo opens Region 7 play as it takes a trip to play at Westlake.
