RICHMOND, Cache County ?— A woman was killed Monday night after she was partially ejected from the car she was riding in.

The Utah Highway Patrol said Katie Marie Sanders, 24, of Lewiston, Cache County, was a passenger in a vehicle that failed to negotiate a slight curve on state Road 142. The driver, whose name has not been released, tried to regain control of the car but crossed the center line and rolled his vehicle through a fence, troopers said.

Sanders was partially ejected when the car struck a fence post. She died at the scene.

The initial investigation indicates that speed and alcohol were factors in the crash, troopers said. Neither Sanders nor the driver were wearing seat belts, according to investigators. The driver was transported to Logan Regional Hospital in critical condition.
