LOGAN — Gerome, the dog owned by a young Las Vegas woman who apparently committed suicide in Green Canyon, was returned on Tuesday to the woman's mother and brother.
Andrea Celina Roye, 18, had told friends she was going on an overnight hiking trip, but was reported missing the next day, Aug. 5, by her boyfriend. A search was launched for Roye, but she was not found immediately. Then on Aug. 30, the Cache County Sheriff's Office got a call from hikers reporting an odor in the area of the Beirdneau trail.
Law enforcement officials found Roye's body and her death was deemed a suicide. The dog was in the area, but was skittish around the people conducting the search and ran off, eluding immediate capture.
Law enforcement officials took Roye's mother and brother to the site of Roye's death on Monday evening and the dog was spotted in the area. Animal control officers used a live trap on Tuesday to catch Gerome, who was then given to Roye's relatives.
