A man who was allegedly driving under the influence of morphine last March has been charged with vehicular homicide.

Kelly Paul Walton, 58, was driving in front of a house at 307 W. 400 North in Salt Lake City on March 17 where Kelly Almond was standing at the rear of his pickup truck retrieving some tools. According to charging documents, Walton's car veered to the south side of the road toward Almond, 53. Almond was struck by the front of the vehicle; he was transported to a hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Charging documents state that Walton says he did not see Almond.

Walton consented to have his blood drawn after the collision and a subsequent test showed substantial amounts of morphine in his system, documents state.

His bail was set at $125,000.
