The health-care debate has recently become submerged in a body of partisan discourse that often relies on scare tactics and lies, particularly from those who oppose health-care reform. To bring things back to reality, I offer the following: If you are a veteran or Native American, you receive health care as if you lived under the British national system. If you have employer-provided health insurance, it is as if you lived in Germany. If you receive Medicare, it is similar to the Canadian "single-payer" system. If you are one of the 50 million uninsured Americans, it is as if you lived in Burundi or Burma, where you either pay cash or get sick and die.
The disparity is obvious and must be addressed immediately. It never ceases to amaze me that a demographic that claims to be as religious as the residents of Utah do can write off 50 million people for as superficial a reason as higher taxes.
