Your editorial of Aug. 25 was very perplexing. It seems as though you want to make Social Security the villain, not the hero it really is. The problem with Social Security is its unfairness to the lower- and middle-class workers in the way deductions are made from their compensation. Let's make it fair for all by eliminating the ceiling on compensation.
Wage earners who make extremely high salaries are not eligible for Social Security when they reach retirement age. Allow them to deduct what they normally would have received in Social Security as an income tax deduction.
