Alex Hart, Jordan, football: This senior quarterback helped the Beetdiggers rebound from an opening-night loss by simply shredding Layton's defense in a 52-26 win on Friday night.
Hart completed 24 of 35 passes for 479 yards and six touchdowns. The first time he touched the ball, he tossed a 65-yard touchdown strike to receiver Cory Hunt. Hart also kept the Beetdiggers turnover-free in their victory.
"He does a great job," said Jordan coach Eric Kjar. "He competes his butt off. He's a stud. It's nice to have a quarterback with experience."
Kalani Norris, Panguitch, volleyball: This junior outside hitter is so athletic and so versatile she could play any position on the floor and help the second-ranked Bobcats.
"Offensively, she does whatever we need her to do," said her coach and father, Troy Norris. "She's really developed this year."
Norris is a three-sport athlete who also maintains a 4.0 GPA. Not a vocal leader, the all-state volleyball and basketball player understands just what she needs to do for the 9-1 Bobcats.
"She's pretty quiet, but she knows she's our go-to person," said Norris. "She's definitely a leader on the floor."
