The Mother Goose and Grimm cartoon about Congress allowing concealed weapons in national parks was a cheap shot (Aug. 31). There have been dire warnings about a Wild West result every time a state has extended concealed carry rights to law-abiding citizens. It has never materialized. In fact, crime rates have gone down.
National parks should not be "gun-free zones" for everyone except criminals. Are more criminals carrying guns in national parks? Yes. Witness the increasing number of park employees who are now sworn officers carrying firearms.
