Dell, B. Schanze was arrested for reckless driving and three seatbelt violations and will serve 10 days in the Utah County Jail.
Utah County Jail
SARATOGA SPRINGS — A judge sentenced Dell "Superdell" Schanze to 10 days in the Utah County Jail on Friday for violations incurred during a traffic stop one year ago.
Schanze, who's running for mayor of Saratoga Springs, was caught driving erratically on a Utah County road in August 2008. His two children were in the car with him and not wearing seat belts, police said.
Court records say Schanze said his driving was a way to entertain the children in the vehicle.
A loaded gun was found in a fanny pack Schanze was wearing, and his concealed weapons permit had expired, police said. However, a recent change in state law exempted that charge.
A judge also gave the former computer salesman a $670 fine and ordered two years of unsupervised probation, said Saratoga Springs Police Cpl. Aaron Rosen.
"He was found guilty by a court of law, regardless of what he claims," Rosen said. "At the end of his 10-day sentence, he will return to his wife and kids and life as normal."
Schanze represented himself in court and maintained his innocence as bailiffs removed him, Rosen said.
