The government spends a lot of money to get people to quit smoking or punishes them for their choice by heaping taxes on their purchase. Ironically, at the same time, we spend money and pass laws to encourage people to consume alcohol, which is known to ruin families, careers, health and take lives while it is being touted socially.
Can someone help me understand why alcohol consumption is so acceptably encouraged? Please tell me one thing alcohol consumption does which does not negatively impact the consumer.
