OREM — A Springville man was arrested in Orem Wednesday after he walked into a hospital and stole a free-standing vending machine, police said.
The 46-year-old man walked into the lobby of Timpanogos Regional Hospital, 750 W. 800 North, around 6 p.m. and took the three-sided, "gumball-type" machine, said Orem Police Lt. Gary Downey.
Downey said the man took the machine outside, where he attempted to kick it open.
"He busted open the cover on the pistachios and started filling his pockets up, and that's when the officers got there," Downey said.
The man was arrested for investigation of theft and criminal mischief. Downey said the man didn't have a previous criminal history in Utah County.
