BOUNTIFUL — A garage fire erupted at the home of an elderly couple Tuesday night.
At 9:20 p.m., the Bountiful Fire Department dispatched three engines and a truck to the home near 800 North and 700 East. When firefighters arrived, neighbors told them the homeowners were still asleep inside the house.
The couple came to the door just as firefighters were preparing to break it down, awoken "by all the noise," said Deputy Fire Chief Jeff Bassett.
"They had no idea the house was on fire," Bassett said.
The fire was contained to the garage and consumed the two vehicles inside. Fire investigators were at the home Wednesday looking into the cause of the fire.
No injuries were reported. The couple spent the night at the home of one their children.
Officials estimated damage at $70,000.
