Grid picks contest begins this week

The Deseret News' prep Grid Picks contest begins this week, with the opening of the 2009 high school football season. The best picker each week wins $50. Six runners-up each week win Deseret News Grid Picks T-shirts.

This week's games to prognosticate are Cottonwood at Alta, Judge at Tooele, Jordan at Northridge, Dixie at Springville, Pleasant Grove at Timpview, Bountiful at Lone Peak, Provo at Cyprus, Olympus at Hillcrest, Juab at Morgan, Davis at Brighton, and Grand at Emery. The "tie-breaker" game, where readers guess not only the winner but also the final score, is Mountain Crest at Highland.

CONTEST RULES: Ballots are published online each week, Aug. 18 through Oct. 23. Each weekly contest ends at 7 p.m. on Friday. If the contest includes a Wednesday or Thursday game, the contest will end at 7 p.m. the day of the earliest game. You may enter anytime before the deadline.

Only one entry each week per person allowed. A valid e-mail address must accompany each entry; one entry per e-mail address per week. Entrants must be at least 13 years old.

Mark boxes to predict winners. Predict the score and the winner of the weekly tiebreaker game, which counts as one of the 12 games listed each week. Ties will be broken using the score of the tiebreaker game. If that does not resolve ties, a random selection by computer will be used.

Employees, agents and correspondents of the Deseret News, MediaOne, other news media and their families are ineligible. Entries may not be submitted in the names of others. Games postponed, canceled or erroneously listed are not figured in final grading. The Deseret News is not responsible for misdirected Internet files or other computer problems.
