2 drivers killed in separate accidents
Two similar but separate rollover accidents — one in Box Elder County and the other in Summit County — killed two drivers early Monday morning.
Utah Highway Patrol officials believe alcohol may have played a role in both accidents.
The accidents happened about 30 minutes apart in the early morning hours, according to the Utah Department of Public Safety. The two men were not wearing seat belts, and both veered off the road then overcorrected. And both were ejected from their vehicles when the vehicles rolled, UDPS said.
Borin Peang, 39, from Oakley, Calif., was transported from the accident scene on state Route 30 near Beaver Dam to Bear River Valley Hospital in Tremonton and then airlifted to McKay-Dee Hospital Center in Ogden, where he died from the injuries sustained in the 3:30 a.m. crash.
Peang's Chevy pickup left the road after drifting across oncoming lanes, the department said. He then veered back onto the roadway and overcorrected "causing the truck to slide sideways off the roadway."
"The vehicle vaulted off the edge of the hill and rolled three times down a 100-foot hillside before coming to a rest at the bottom of the hill on the north side of the fence line," a department report said. "During the rolls the driver, who was not seat belted, was ejected from the vehicle."
The investigation found alcohol and speed to be factors in the crash.
Shane M. Bolinder, 41, from Oakley, Summit County, died after his Toyota 4Runner rolled over near Francis, Summit County, at about 4 a.m. His vehicle ran off state Route 35 and hit a delineator post, then overcorrected, "re-entering the roadway sliding sideways," the department said.
A passer-by discovered the accident about an hour later, the department stated. Bolinder was pronounced dead at the scene.
