Provo Pioneer Village to auction antiques

PROVO — The Provo Pioneer Village has collected so many antiques that it is running out of space to display them.

Now the nonprofit group is doing a major renovation to tell the story of Utah Valley pioneers before the coming of the railroad in 1869, which ended the pioneer era. Over the years the project accepted antique donations regardless of the time period from which they came. Some items are duplicated.

Many of them don't portray the era that the vgroup wants to focus on, so it has organized an antique auction on Saturday at 10 a.m. at North Park, 500 W. 600 North. Antique seekers may preview the items starting at 8 a.m.

"Simply put, we need money and more space, hence we are having the first sell-off in the history of the village," said Stevens C. Nelson of the Brigham Young Chapter of the Sons of Utah Pioneers, which sponsors the project.

Auction items include leather tack, equestrian supplies, stoves, organ pipes, a sewing machine, farm and dairy equipment and an old original print of Joseph Smith.

The group continues to accept donated antiques to sell at the auction. Contact Nelson at 801-375-9299 or e-mail him at stevenscnelson@comcast.net.
