A man speeding east on I-80 near Sugar House crashed through the dividing barrier Friday morning and landed in the westbound lanes.
Witnesses told troopers the driver of a Ford F-250 was possibly racing another vehicle when he veered left and rolled into oncoming traffic, Utah Highway Patrol spokesman Cameron Roden said.
The driver sustained serious injuries and was transported by ambulance to University Hospital. No other injuries were reported.
Westbound traffic was congested from East Canyon to Sugar House. Crews for the Department of Transportation cleared debris and repaired the barrier.
