Utah senior offensive lineman Zane Beadles has been named to the preseason watch list for the 2009 Outland Trophy, which is presented to the top interior lineman in college football.
Beadles, a four-year starter for the Utes and a 2008 first-team all-Mountain West Conference offensive tackle, was recently named to the preseason all-MWC team. He is also on the preliminary watch list for the Rotary Lombardi Award.
Last year, Beadles was the Most Valuable Offensive Lineman for a Ute team that went 13-0 and finished with a No. 2 national ranking.
A mechanical engineering major scheduled to graduate in December, Beadles was named to the 2008 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VIII team.
The winner of the Outland Trophy will be announced Dec. 10. Beadles is one of two Utes to date to make a preseason watch list. Defensive end Koa Misi (Hendricks Award) is the other.
