SANDY — A man with a long history of domestic disputes was arrested early Monday after police say he stabbed another man multiple times while the victim tried to help his cousin retrieve her belongings from his house.
Allen Garcia, 30, remained in critical condition Monday after being stabbed in the face, chest and arm, just after midnight, said Sandy Police Sgt. Justin Chapman.
The incident began as an argument between a 19-year-old woman and Alajandro Lozano, 23, who live together. The girl was kicked out of the house, Chapman said. She returned later with her cousin, Garcia, to get some of her possessions, he said.
Garcia and Lozano got into an argument on the doorstep, near 100 West and 8800 South, which escalated when Lozano punched Garcia, Chapman said. He then grabbed a steak knife from his kitchen and stabbed Garcia four times, according to investigators.
Garcia was transported to University Hospital by medical helicopter. Lozano was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of aggravated assault.
Chapman said police have been called to Garcia's house numerous times on domestic violence and domestic dispute related calls dating back to 2006. He was arrested in 2006 for domestic assault, according to Chapman.
