ALLEN PARK, Mich. — Detroit Lions defensive end Jared DeVries left the practice field on a cart Monday after suffering an apparent ankle injury.
Coach Jim Schwartz says the 11-year veteran would be evaluated later in the day.
The Lions also were missing receiver Calvin Johnson, who wore a cast on his right hand to cover a jammed thumb. Johnson said the cast was precautionary and Schwartz said X-rays showed no significant injury. The coach would not say if Johnson would miss Saturday's preseason opener against visiting Atlanta.
While Johnson sat out, rookie safety Louis Delmas was back after missing several days of practice with a thigh injury.
