The State Board of Education on Friday named Steven W. Noyce the superintendent of the Utah Schools for the Deaf and the Blind.

Noyce is a former education program director at the Utah School for the Deaf. He comes to the new post from the Tucker-Maxon Oral School in Portland, Ore., where he served as executive director. He has bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Utah.

Noyce replaces Linda Rutledge, who retired in July 2007.

The Utah Schools for the Deaf and the Blind serves about 2,200 students. The main campus is in Ogden, with additional campuses in Salt Lake City and Orem.
