The Utah National Guard Charitable Trust will hold its fifth annual Minuteman 5K Run/Walk on Saturday to help the families of Utah's National Guard service members. Organizers say 100 percent of the proceeds will benefit the Utah National Guard Charitable Trust, a nonprofit entity that assists Utah military families with financial needs that arise during deployment.
The race will start and finish at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy and will begin at 7:30 a.m. Same-day registration is $40 and runs from 6:30 a.m. to 7:15 a.m. Participants are encouraged to register online prior to the day of the event for $30 at www.sandy.utah.gov/parks or www.activityreg.com.
"In the past year, the Utah National Guard Charitable Trust has significantly benefitted the lives of hundreds of Utah families who have a loved one serving our country in Iraq, Afghanistan and in other areas around the world," said Kip Wadsworth, president of Ralph L. Wadsworth, a key supporter of the trust.
During the event, hundreds of items will be placed in a silent auction, including appliances, tools, a laptop computer, pressure washer, space heaters, tool combo sets and other hand tools. Other activities are also planned, including a climbing wall, an Apache helicopter to land, display of military equipment, music and entertainment.
