UTAH STATE PRISON — An inmate was stabbed Tuesday afternoon during a prison altercation between two gangs, according to the Utah Department of Corrections.

The man was flown to University Hospital with injuries to his head and neck, though the extent of his injuries are not yet known, said Mike Haddon, deputy director of the Utah Department of Corrections.

Four men were involved in the fight, but it is unclear if any others were injured.

The prison will conduct an investigation into the incident, Haddon said. The prisoners involved will be isolated from the general population until it is complete and the department determines appropriate discipline.
