Cunningham scores 4, leads FC Dallas to victory
FRISCO, Texas — Jeff Cunningham had a career-high four goals to move into third place on the league's all-time list and David Ferreira scored twice to lead FC Dallas to a 6-0 victory.
Cunningham, who had his second MLS hat trick, has 112 goals to surpass former Dallas Burn star Jason Kreis for third on the league's career list.
Goalkeeper Dario Sala returned to the lineup for FC Dallas (5-9-5) after missing 12 games with a knee injury and needed to make just one save for the shutout, an acrobatic diving stop on the Wizards' Davy Arnaud in the 48th minute.
Kansas City (5-7-7) dropped to 0-2-2 in its past four matches, scoring one goal in that span.
REVOLUTION 1 TORONTO FC 1: At Foxborough, Mass., Edgaras Jankauskas scored his first goal of the season in the 76th minute Saturday night to give the New England Revolution a 1-1 draw with Toronto FC.
Jankauskas, a 34-year-old Lithuanian striker, was added to the Revolution roster July 2 and was playing in just his third game. He beat defender Nick Garcia to a loose ball on the left wing, after a cross by Jay Heaps to ShalrieJoseph on the right side. Joseph steered the ball back to the left, leaving Toronto goalie Stefan Frei out of position. Dwayne DeRosario scored his eighth goal of the season in the 34th minute to give Toronto (7-7-6) the lead at Gilette Stadium. NewEngland (6-5-6) extended its unbeaten streak to four (2-0-2).
DYNAMO 4, UNITED 3: At Houston, Brian Ching scored twice in the first half and Houston held on to beat D.C. United. Houston (10-5-5) extended its lead in the Western Conference to six points over second-place Seattle. The game was scoreless before the Dynamo scored three goals in a three-minute span in the first half, with Brad Davis scoring in the 36th minute shortly before Ching scored twice a minute apart. Stuart Holden converted a penalty kick in the 66th minute for Houston. Luciano Emilio scored two goals and Fred had one for United (6-4-10). Emilio's second goal provided the final margin.
CREW 1, RAPIDS 0: At Commerce City, Colo., Chad Marshall scored in the 39th minute as the Columbus Crew posted a rare road win. Goalkeeper William Hesmer made several key saves en route to his third shutout of the season for Eastern Conference-leading Columbus (8-3-9), which improved to 2-3-5 on the road. The Crew notched their first road win since June 6 at Kansas City despite playing without Alejandro Moreno (groin) and reining league MVP Guillermo Barros Schelotto (left hamstring). Both stars sat out the for the third consecutive game.
