A man was flown by medical helicopter to the University of Utah Hospital after he crashed his bike in American Fork Canyon.

Lone Peak Fire District Capt. Zeth Turner said the cause of the accident is unclear, but the man, who was in his 60s, sustained critical injuries and was unconscious when emergency crews arrived. He was wearing a helmet.

"The first people on scene were an emergency room doctor and a nurse who were recreating in the area," Turner said. "He was fortunate to have such a high level of care from the beginning."

The accident occurred about seven miles from the mouth of the canyon, but Turner questioned if the man would remember what proceeded the crash.
