SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento River Cats scored eight runs over the first two innings and then held on to beat the Salt Lake Bees 8-5 on Thursday night.
After falling behind, the Bees chipped away with one run in the fourth on an RBI single by Sean Rodriguez, who then delivered a two-run single in the sixth to pull Salt Lake to within five.
In the seventh, Brad Coon drove home two with a double.
Matt Brown walked and Adam Pavkovich singled to open the ninth to bring the potential tying run to the plate, but Gary Patchett and Abel Nieves struck out and Coon bounced back to the mound to end the game.
